The ACT Government has begun discussions with ClubsACT on the Terms of Reference for the Club Industry Inquiry, ensuring the focus remains on clubs’ economic and social roles rather than poker gambling. The final Terms are expected soon, and an independent procurement process will appoint the inquiry lead. ClubsACT has engaged with Minister Paterson on industry concerns, including cashless gaming, machine reductions, and harm minimisation, advocating for policies that support long-term sustainability. The Government remains committed to reducing gaming machines to 1,000 by 2045 and introducing mandatory cashless gaming. ClubsACT continues to push for evidence-based policy, particularly regarding machine license acquisitions and the impact on clubs’ viability. The industry also faces challenges with the introduction of Portable Long Service Leave, requiring ongoing review. In a positive step, Tradies Club has rejoined ClubsACT, strengthening its representation to 99% of ACT clubs, reinforcing a unified voice in political advocacy and industry reform.
